In the ground, bulbs are planted at a depth of 6–8 cm, or up to 10 cm in lighter soils, maintaining a 10 cm spacing. In containers, plant at 5–6 cm deep, grouping several bulbs per pot. This arrangement encourages even growth and abundant flowering.

The substrate should remain consistently slightly moist. Avoid both drought and waterlogging. Feed with a fertiliser high in potassium and phosphorus, with limited nitrogen. Compost can be added before planting.

Freesias planted in spring bloom from late June to August. When started earlier in containers, flowers may appear from May and continue through to September.

Height

Plants reach 30–50 cm in height. Their slender stems and narrow leaves bring harmony and elegance to garden displays.

Winter hardiness

After flowering, bulbs should be lifted and stored in a cool, dry place (8–15°C). Storing in sand or sawdust helps prevent rot and ensures bulbs can be replanted the following season.
