The tree mallow is an annual plant, whose beauty has enchanted many gardeners. This branching plant develops erect, stiff stems. The large, pink, cup shaped flowers with a diameter between 7 and 10 cm appear from July to October. They beautifully complement the perennial flower beds and seasonal arrangements. The 60 to 100 cm tall plants constitute a rich source of excellent, durable cut flowers. They retain their ornamental value in bouquets for up to 14 days. The tree mallows belong to melliferous plants and are therefore eagerly visited by butterflies and bees. Despite its stunning beauty the tree mallow is rather undemanding. It grows quickly and does not require any special treatment.
Tree mallow can be grown from seedlings or direct sow. The seeds can be sown from mid March to April into the containers placed indoors on windowsills or in greenhouses. Should you opt for the direct sow, wait with it until end of April or beginning of May. The seedlings need to be pricked out in order to develop well. Plant them 20 to 30 cm apart.
Choose sunny or partially shady sites for tree mallow cultivation. A fertile, humous soil that is rich in nutrients provides the plant with optimal growing conditions. It is a plant that requires regular, frequent watering and fertilization with flowering plant food.
One package contains 1 grams of the pink-flowered tree mallow seeds. The basic cultivation instructions and the sow-by date were printed on the back of the package.
